‘Doe Eyed Yorkie’

yorkie 5          I decided to enter the Westminster Kennel Club/Pratt dog art contest; this is entry 1 that I’ve completed. What I loved the most about painting this ‘Doe Eyed Yorkie’ piece is experimenting with the fur texture.

As you can see, the first layer was a bit of a struggle, I wanted to include the fur wrappers present in the reference image, yet it ended up not working out. I also made the fur too bloated and the ‘neck fur’ far too short.

In the next layer of paint, I discovered that the composition was a bit crooked, and the dimensions a bit off, so I sought to amend that.
